Mystique was, to say the least, infuriated to the point of seeming deathly calm. The small part of herself that was still honest with her however, still managed to point out that her current predicament was mostly her fault. She had taken it upon herself to test the battle skills and readiness of the members of the Brotherhood. By dropping in on them as random members of the X-men when they least expected it. Wanda had been the most recent, and second to last. She had of course, passed admirably. That had left only...

"Toad. He's the only one I have yet to test." Wanda had tensed slightly.

"And just who are you going to show up to him as?" Mystique smirked slightly.

"Nightcrawler. I want to see just how he handles a supposed teleporter. I'll be testing him tomorrow night." For some reason, this managed to do something that Mystique had previously thought impossible. It made Wanda look worried. The teen had started to say something, but Mystique had ignored it headed away, preparing her battle plan.

Wanda had sighed. "I think I better tell Pietro we need to find somewhere to stay tomorrow night." She hadn't been entirely sure the house would still be standing.

Mystique had puzzled a little over Wanda's behavior, but had dismissed it in the end. Now though, she was fairly sure she understood it. Toad had been shirtless, obviously preparing to go to bed. The perfect time for an ambush.

The first thing that went wrong was that he'd managed to hear the almost silent sound of her opening the window. Or perhaps he'd felt the air flow. She still wasn't entirely sure what his powers encompassed. Nor did he enlighten her. He simply proceeded to throw her even more off balance.

"I told you, you can teleport in here." Mystique/Nightcrawler had only blinked at him. "Not like anyone's gonna mind the sulfur smell." He had frowned at her. "Sides' I thought we agreed on not coming in the window." Mystique had thus far been simply confused. Toad's next statement changed that entirely.

"Kinda makes it harder to keep it secret you're my boyfriend, don't it?" Before he could so much as blink, he had found himself pinned to his bed, his arms restrained above his head. "What's gotten into you?!" Mystique had started to change back, her face the first thing to revert. She had enjoyed the look of absolute terror that had entered the younger mutant's eyes.

"I was wondering the same thing about you." Her voice had been a low, quiet hiss. "Care to explain?" Toad had grinned a little and opened his mouth. Mystique had leaned just a little closer...

And had promptly received a face-full of slime. She had reared back, clawing at her face. By the time she had cleared off enough to see, the other mutant had vanished. She had spent the next half hour fruitlessly tearing through the old Victorian house in an attempt to find him. She had surmised that he had wisely chosen to make his escape from the grounds.

Now she was sitting in her living room, extricating solidified slime from her hair. This task was now entering its third hour. She resolved to murder him when he turned up at school the next day.

This was not to be however. Now in her decidedly more human guise as the principal, Mystique watched as her son, also in human disguise, appeared from the throng of students and linked an arm with one of Toad's. Kitty Pryde, who was with Kurt, rolled her eyes and shot a look at Lance, who had come with Toad. The other mutant just made a face and shrugged. It was distinctly a "What can I say?" kind of action.

Mystique turned when Wanda appeared behind her. "Well?" Mystique shrugged.

"He seems to make him happy so I suppose I can't just kill him." She felt her lips quirk, "Besides, I think I'll have to give him a pass anyway. Never thought he'd be brave enough to slime me when I was that angry at him." Wanda raised a finger.

"Yeah. About that." Mystique waved a hand to cut her off.

"Don't worry. I'll send some people to fix the house later today."

Wanda started to walk off, but over her shoulder she said, "Make sure they soundproof the walls." Mystique watched her go.

"On second thought, maybe murder should be on the agenda." She turned to give the mutant a glare. He obviously felt her looking, since he stiffened and started glancing around. "Then again, I think it'll be much more fun to have him looking over his shoulder all the time." She heard a commotion in the hallway outside and sighed, leaving her office to prevent two seniors from locking a freshman into a locker.

Out on the grounds, Toad relaxed as he felt Mystique's gaze leave him. Kurt looked at him in more than a little concern. "Liebe? Todd, are you alright?"

The other mutant just shivered. "Your mom's scary dude, and that's all I'm saying about it."
Because even Mystique has to get her kicks from somewhere right? Don't worry, I think she actually approves. I fully blame :icondendraica:'s pic "Oh Snap" found here [link] for this. It created a plot bunny in my head that bred like you wouldn't believe and demanded to be let out. Enjoy people!
